A Letter From England (1960)
As I was gathering the materials for this intended blog late last year, I came across a letter in the 1960 issue of “The Sulaimanian” – the very last article in that issue, just before the adverts.
Surprised it was. The letter was from my dad’s cousin, Hassan bin Abdul Karim (Ayah Ngah Hassan) who wrote a reply to the editorial of the school magazine. His accompanying article, “Carnival Week in Loughborough”, appeared as the last article in the magazine.
After retiring from Shell, Ayah Ngah has dedicated most of his time with his Amanah Al Manar.
Everytime I have the opportunity to visit him, I would always enjoy listening about what he has done and continue doing to help improve the kampong folks – in almost every aspects.
Ayah Ngah was equally surprise when I sent him the scanned copy of the letter and his article in the magazine.
Well, Ayah Ngah, to answer your question, this was how I stumbled upon your letter and article in the magazine. InshaAllah, I shall be mentioning about your sister, Khatijah (Mak Cik Wok), in the next posting.
