KUALA LUMPUR: Bekas Hakim Mahkamah Agung, Tan Sri Mohamed Yusoff Mohamed, meninggal dunia di Hospital Kuala Lumpur (HKL), petang semalam selepas koma selama 12 hari akibat serangan strok.
Allahyarham yang pernah menjawat beberapa jawatan penting dalam bidang perundangan dan kehakiman dari 1963 sehingga 1992, menghembuskan nafas terakhir pada usia 81 tahun jam 4.20 petang.
Anaknya, Harmy, berkata, Allahyarham menghembuskan nafas terakhir di sisi isteri, Puan Sri Rosita Harisun Daud dan lapan anaknya.
“Beliau dimasukkan ke Wad Neurologi Unit Rawatan Rapi HKL pada 21 Februari lalu selepas mengalami serangan strok ketika dalam perjalanan pulang ke Kuala Lumpur dari Terengganu,” katanya.
Allahyarham memulakan kariernya pada 1963 dan antara jawatan yang pernah disandang ialah Setiausaha Kerajaan Negeri Terengganu, Hakim Mahkamah Tinggi Borneo di Kota Kinabalu dan Kuching; Hakim Mahkamah Tinggi Malaya di Johor Bharu dan Kuala Lumpur; Hakim Mahkamah Persekutuan dan Hakim Mahkamah Agung ketika bersara pada 1992.
Selepas bersara, beliau dilantik menjadi pengerusi dan pengarah beberapa syarikat yang disenaraikan dalam Bursa Saham Kuala Lumpur, antaranya Dataprep Holdings Berhad, Dunham-Bush Berhad dan Zenecon-Kumagai Sdn Bhd.

Former judge Yusoff dies
PETALING JAYA: Retired Supreme Court judge Tan Sri Mohamed Yusoff Mohamed died at 4.20pm at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital after suffering a stroke yesterday. He was 81.
Mohamed Yusof leaves behind a wife and eight children.
According to his son Harmy, 43, Mohamed Yusoff suffered the severe stroke while travelling to his home in Kuala Lumpur from Kuala Terengganu on Feb 21.
He then slipped into a coma.
“We have lost the rock in our family as he had always held all of us together. He taught us very well.
“Because of him, three of us followed in his footsteps and became lawyers,” Harmy said.
Harmy, who has a private legal practice, said that his mother Puan Sri Rosita Harisun and his siblings were with Yusof when he died.
Mohamed Yusoff served as a High Court judge between 1974 and 1988 and was elevated to the Supreme Court before retiring in 1992.
He had also previously served as state secretary in Terengganu, and as legal adviser to the Selangor state government.
He was also chairman and director of several public listed companies, including the Berjaya Group Bhd.
Mohamed Yusoff’s body has been brought back to the family’s home in Taman Tasik Titiwangsa.
The cortege will leave the residence for the Titiwangsa Muslim cemetery at 10am today.
