Speech Day 1961

Photos from 1961 issue of “The Sulaimanian” about the Speech Day celebration:

The Speech Day special guest of honour was His Highness The Yang Di-Pertuan Muda seen here officiating the exhibition. I wonder where this was done. Could it be at the Vocational block? [photo below]

Vocational block is now known as Blok Perhentian

Part of the show typically performed those days were the folk dance – usually the western one rather than the Malay traditional. Could this be the Mexican “Hat Dance”? My guess – this was performed at the field in front of the Specialist block [blok Rhu now] and behind the toilet [the female student now].

The Science/Rawa block (right) now stands on part of what used to be the field (where we played football for our PE) in front of the Specialist/Rhu block (left).

Another popular show during special events was the gymnastic. Who else other that Cikgu Razali Mutalib to help with the stunt.

  1. Salam. Gambar gymnastic menarik perhatian saya. Saya pernah melihat gambar tersebut dalam album lama ayah saya. Adakah yg melompat Abdul Majid @ Mustaffa bin Ambak?

  2. Masih ingat Cikgu Razali & Cikgu Isaac ajar PE dan jimnastik pada tahun 70-an dulu……….

  3. Yes the photo in the Sulaimanian magazine issue 1961 showing me fishdive through the ring of fire held by my gymnastic teacher Mr Razali Mutalib.
